Build a list of where we work

Matt Weston, 20 Sep

Comments are open1. Let’s build a list2. Like I said a month ago, one of my uncurrent nonprojects is to start a physical coworking space in Brighton. But, to stop this blog getting too Brighton centric, how about we build a quick list in the comments of similar3 physical places elsewhere in the UK?

1If you have time, include a postcode, and why you think the place is great or not great. Self-publicity is ok, as long as you state who you are.
2Other build-a-list posts we’ve done include your lists of Google AdWords cheats (9), non-clone high sts (18), start-up reading (13), fast cities (47).
3By similar I mean anyplace where you can work on an ad hoc, informal basis if you’re a small business owner, freelancer, independent. Cafes with wifi are includable, for e.g.

I often visit the Hubworking Centre near Liverpool Street in London - it’s on the corner of Wormwood Street and Bishopsgate (actual address is 5 Wormwood Street, EC2M 1RQ). It’s free to join and they have some nice communal cafe areas with free WiFi, as well as hot desks and meeting rooms you can pay for.

McArthur Glen Designer Outlet
St. Nicholas Avenue

Food Court is pretty empty from 10-12, reasonable coffee, high roof. Useful for meetings because going into York is a real pain. Not sure on wifi, probably doesn’t have it.
and
Starbucks, St Andrews Quay, Hull. Easy to find, off main road into Hull from the West - a gherkin in a retail park! Free parking, decent coffee, not too busy during the week, and great views over the Humber.

I’d reccomend the Dana Centre, attached to the Science Museum at SW7 5HD. Free Wi-Fi, fun and funky cafe, extraordinarily good bacon sandwiches (small, but oh so tasty).

I usually work from home but when out on the road my local favourite is Cafe Nero in Halifax. Good coffee, good atmosphere and WiFi if I need it. To be honest I haven’t used the WiFi yet but I know it’s there should the need arise. It’s nice to work without the distraction of messenger, email or Skype - I actually get lots of real work done.
